When was the last time you ever heard me compliment Jerry Jones on his football prowess as an owner and GM? Besides catapulting the Cowboys into another stratosphere of commercial success, JJ has been making some questionable calls when it came to personnel for quite some time now and folks in Big D were just sick of it. That tune changed, however, when Dallas made a bold move on draft day and traded up to get Thorpe Award honoree Morris Claiborne of LSU in the first round. Although Jerry has made many a bold move before, they were usually ones that left Cowboy fans scratching their heads instead of erupting in applause the way the Claiborne draft did. It seems like Jerry got it right again. Although the Cowboys didn’t exactly have the greatest draft, there are still many things to like about this group, and you have to respect Dallas’s desire to commit on improving its defense.

- Anyone who was looking for an NBA Finals preview certainly got one on Sunday when the Heat squared off against the Thunder in Oklahoma City in what could easily be a match-up fans will be watching over the course of a seven-game series this summer. If that is indeed the case, it could be a long post-season for the Heat, who not only got their ass whooped by Kevin Durant and the Thunder on Sunday, but are also having their own problems with the Bulls, who are also doing their fair share to stand between the Heat and their playoff aspirations.
- Speaking of teams that can potentially stand in the way of title aspirations, the Spurs are doing a fantastic job of being a thorn in Oklahoma City’s side. Maybe it has something to do with the Spurs’ caginess as a team, maybe it’s Gregg Popovich’s general brilliance as a coach, maybe they just match up well against OKC or maybe it’s just a combination of all three. All I know is if I’m the Thunder, figuring out how to tangle with San Antonio is my number one priority.
- After a lackluster start to the NCAA Baseball season, the Longhorns have really picked up their game ever since conference play started. After losing eight of their first 13 games, Texas has picked up a lot of steam winning eight of their last nine and capturing a number 22 ranking in the national polls. If there was ever a time to get hot, conference play is the time to do it and it looks like these Longhorns are beginning to get it.
- Just when it started to look like it might have stopped raining absolute shit on the New York Knicks in the midst of their surprise winning streak after letting go of Mike D’Antoni, Amari Stoudemire gets knocked out indefinitely with a bulging disk in his lower back. Oh yeah, and Jeremy Lin is also inactive with a sore right knee. Forecast for New York’s near future: shitty with a 100% chance of absolute shit.
- It happened folks, it happened! Tiger Woods is back, ladies and gentlemen, and he’s better than ever! It’s like the ’90s all over again! OK, so maybe only a fraction of the preceding three exclamations are true, but Tiger Woods has finally won his first PGA Tour since 2009 and appears to be playing better golf these days than he has at any point in the last 2.5 years. Now the stage is officially set for what could potentially be the greatest showdown at Augusta that the world of professional golf has ever seen with Tiger, Phil and Rory all looking to extend their legacies in golf history. And just about all of that preceding sentence was true.
- Lamar Odom called the boos from fans in LA “confusing and hurtful” when the former Laker showed up with his new team, the Dallas Mavericks, and, truth be told, he’s totally right. That was fucked up LA. Real fucked up.
